Sarah King, otherwise known as River Suite Orchestra, is an Australian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, originally from England. Raised in a musical family, Sarah grew up singing motets, playing chamber music and treasured family singalongs with her father at the piano.
Sarah gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and the rise of homelessness in women whilst volunteering as a music mentor at Catherine House, Adelaide. Exploring the intersectionality of women’s homelessness, Sarah set about writing an intimate collection of original songs exploring themes of home, love and loss with the aim to raise awareness.
Contributing to Adelaide’s UNESCO Creative Cities Network the EP project was funded by a crowdfunding campaign and recorded at Wizard Tone Studio’s with Jarrad Payne as engineer. Sarah played most of the quartet instruments herself on the recording with Hilary Kleinig adding Cello, and launched the project with a live performance at Adelaide’s home of original music, The Wheatsheaf.
The sellout launch featured live band, string quartet and horns performed by Adam Page, Josh Baldwin, Django Rowe, Felicity Freeman, Simone Slattery, Tori Phillips, Karen De Nardi and Gemma Phillips.
Outcomes included radio interviews and airplay on community radio nationwide, Jacinta Parson’s The New Music Show , ABC Adelaide, Triple J, Radio Adelaide, and festival performances at Umbrella Winter Festival and The National Folk Festival.
